Jelani M. Favors is the Henry E. Frye Distinguished Professor of History at North Carolina A&T State University and the first director of A&T’s . His recent research has focused on the role historically Black colleges and universities played in the African American freedom struggle as well as the larger Civil Rights Movement. His book, : How Black Colleges Fostered Generations of Leadership and Activism was awarded the Museum of African American History Stone Book Award and the Lillian Smith Book Award, and was a finalist for the Pauli Murray Book Prize.
