Our Commitment to Accessibility

In alignment with our Mission and Values, ¿ìɫֱ²¥ is actively making our content in all formats as accessible as possible to the widest possible audience, including people with print disabilities. As part of our commitment to Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging,  we are committed to advancing more equitable and inclusive global publishing and to supporting the meaningful interventions needed to enact essential change. We have begun the work of reckoning with those who have been excluded, and to illuminate and eliminate systemic exclusion.

We guide ourselves by the standards and specifications defined by , which in turn lead to conformance with the following regulations:

We strive to ensure that our published works follow these principles:

  • Content is structured in a clear, coherent reading order and semantically tagged for easy and logical navigation.
  • Color when used is high contrast for easy readability.
  • MathML is used for equations, which renders them readable by assistive technology.
  • Passages are tagged in non-English languages so that screen readers can pronounce them properly.
  • We include both alternative text (alt text) for images for the majority of our frontlist titles.
  • We include accessibility information in our metadata per industry standards.

ebook Conversions

For all ebook conversions, we proudly work with vendors who are accredited by certified accessible vendors.

A growing percentage of our list is fully accessible. We prioritize by impact and by request for remediation.

Please email accessibility@press.princeton.edu if you have a request for a fully accessible epub3 edition; we will review and respond to requests as part of our accessibility roadmap.

Alternative Formats

¿ìɫֱ²¥ does not directly distribute digital files to institutions or individual students. To best serve the needs of students or other readers with print disabilities, we have partnered with organizations specializing in accessibility services.

Website Accessibility Tools

¿ìɫֱ²¥ partners with ¿ìɫֱ²¥ University to utilize the Editoria11y Drupal accessibility module and DubBot website accessibility checker. The Press also employs other various development and accessibility tools and techniques to ensure alignment with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.

Workplace

Accessibility is embedded in the workplace culture and practice at ¿ìɫֱ²¥. PUP formed an Accessibility Working Group in 2023, which guides our accessibility strategy, accessible content, website accessibility, and accessibility for employees.
