I acquire books on transportation for the Island Press imprint. Transportation access affects every aspect of our lives鈥攆rom housing affordability to mental health. Understanding what is behind decisions about transportation investments (or lack thereof) is critical to improving accessibility and minimizing our carbon footprints.

I鈥檓 very interested in books that take a fresh look at pressing transportation problems, especially on the outsized impact they have on vulnerable populations. Island Press books including Inclusive Transportation by Veronica Davis, When Driving is Not an Option by Anna Zivarts, and Arrested Mobility by Charles Brown directly address the inequities inherent in how we build, manage, and police our transportation infrastructure.

Our transportation books are written for audiences including general readers (including Right of Way by Angie Schmitt); for transportation professionals (including the Urban Street Design Guide and other guides by the National Association of City Transportation Officials); or to appeal to both the professional and general reader (including Killed by a Traffic Engineer by Wes Marshall and Walkable City Rules by Jeff Speck).

Inspiration and examples for improving transportation often come from outside of the US. These ideas are captured in Island Press books including Soft City by David Sim, Copenhagenize by Mikael Colville-Andersen, and Curbing Traffic by Melissa and Chris Bruntlett. I am actively seeking projects that detail ideas and examples across the globe.
