The philosopher Wilfrid Sellars characterized the aim of philosophy as the effort βto understand how things in the broadest possible sense of the term hang together in the broadest possible sense of the term.β Animated by a similar purpose, the philosophy list publishes widely across the field topically and historically, in order to provide the broadest possible understanding of the world and how to live wisely within it.
With strengths in the history of philosophy and moral and political philosophy, we publish books that reach into adjacent fields and we seek to engage general readers in search of the wisdom philosophy has to offer.

Carrying the Olympic flame
My application to carry the Olympic torch in my adopted home of Sicily had been accepted. Along with 10,000 others from every walk of lifeβfrom famous celebrities to those who battle crippling diseaseβI would be part of the team that transports the flame from its origin in Ancient Olympia to the Games. I knew it would be a wonderful experience, but the strongest impression it left on me is not one that I expected.
